BBOX Home · Quick Start Guide
Let’s get connected
Follow these four steps to power, connect and commission your BBOX Home. Complete the steps in the order shown.
Before you begin
- Use the supplied 5 V USB-C power adapter.
- Have an Ethernet cable available. This cable is not included.
- Make sure the router or network switch is working and has internet access.
- Keep the supplied RJ11 P1 cable ready for the smart-meter connection.
Step 1 · Power up
Connect the power supply
Connect the supplied USB-C power adapter to the BBOX and plug it into a wall socket. The LED ring around the centre button glows white for one second when the hardware starts.
Step 2 · Connect the network
Connect the BBOX by Ethernet
Connect an Ethernet cable from the customer’s router or network switch to the Ethernet port on the BBOX. The BBOX automatically starts its connection sequence.
Step 3 · Scan and configure
Link the gateway to its location
Scan the QR code supplied with the BBOX, or open the setup page below. Follow the on-screen instructions to create or access the customer account, select the installation location and link the gateway.
Step 4 · Connect the meter and assets
Continue after the BBOX is online
When the BBOX appears online in the app, connect the smart meter using the supplied P1 cable.
- Smart meter: connect the supplied P1 cable between the smart meter and the P1 port on the BBOX.
- Other assets: follow the installation article or full manual for the relevant inverter, battery, charger or meter.
⚠ Important safety information
- Power supply: only use the supplied 5 V USB-C power adapter. A third-party adapter may damage the gateway or cause instability.
- Service: there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Opening the enclosure voids the warranty.
- Software update: never disconnect the power while the LED ring is spinning purple.
BBOX states
What does each LED colour mean?
The LED ring around the centre button shows the connection and operating status.
| LED | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Spinning blue | Searching for the local network. | Wait briefly. If it continues, check the Ethernet cable, router and switch. |
| Spinning yellow | Connected to the local network and connecting to BBOLT’s servers. | Wait for the connection to complete. |
| Spinning purple | A mandatory software update is in progress. | Do not disconnect the power. |
| Breathing blue | Setup mode. The BBOX is ready for configuration. | Complete the setup process. The BBOX then restarts automatically. |
| Breathing green | Normal operation. The system is online and operating normally. | No action is required. |
| Flashing red | The BBOX cannot connect to the local network. | Check the Ethernet cable and confirm that the router or switch is operating. |
| Flashing yellow | The local network is available, but BBOLT’s servers cannot be reached. | Check the internet connection and router settings. A correctly configured BBOX continues operating in offline mode. |
Light patterns: spinning means the light moves around the ring; breathing means a slow fade in and out; flashing means sharp, distinct blinks.
